Search Engine Optimization – On Page – Part2

March 5th, 2013 9 comments

When it comes to doing business online, you will soon discover that its all about the traffic. Traffic, or the number of internet users youd be able to generate for your website, is and will always be the lifeblood of any online venture. After all, what good is a website when theres no one there to see its pages? How successful will your digital products be if no one would be able to know about them? Who will find out about your services when no one will get exposed to their existence?

Contrary to what many people believe, generating traffic for your website does not start once you pages are published and have gone live. Traffic generation strategies start at the very moment you are conceptualizing an idea for the website itself.

This is what On Page Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is all about. It is concerned with techniques that you can implement on your web pages themselves, to ensure a good volume of traffic for your website. 80% of your traffic would come from the many search engines in the World Wide Web. If each and every web page you have is optimized for these search engines, then your website would be in a good position to have a high rank for the results of every relevant query.

* Keyword selection. Choosing the right keywords is essential for the success of your website. Keywords are the popular search terms that people use to gather information from the search engines. If your web pages are populated by the right density of the correct keywords, then you`ll have better chances of winning the attention of some search engine spiders, like MSN. To determine the appropriate keywords for the subject that your website will be servicing, use the free tools that can be found at nichebot.com .

* Keyword placement in content. Content is the king of the internet. But even royalty needs support. Populate your content with the proper amount of keywords. A density level of at least 2% should be sought. This means that the right keywords should be mentioned at least twice for every 100 words of text.

Again, make sure not to overdue it though with your keywords. Although important on some Search Engines, over stuffing your pages with keywords can have the opposite effect with the engines.

* META tags. META tags are HTML codes that do not have a bearing on the physical appearance of your web pages, but they do inform the search engine spiders that such web pages are appropriate for a particular query. Always include the following META tags on the top portion of your source code between the head sections. You could copy-paste them from the list below, but do change the indicated fields. Also, make sure that you include your important keywords on your META tags.

META NAME=Author CONTENT=your name here
META NAME=Subject CONTENT=the subject of your site
META NAME=Description CONTENT=description of your site
META NAME=Keywords CONTENT=your keywords here
META NAME=Revisit-after CONTENT= days
META NAME=Rating CONTENT=General
META NAME=Robots CONTENT=All

You will have to add the opening and closing tags to the above meta tags.

* ALT tags. ALT tags refer to the text that would appear every time the mouse cursor would pass through an image. Your ALT tags should include your keywords.

I have found that many webmasters don`t bother with these, which is a huge mistake as the spiders can`t read what a picture is about. If your competition isn`t using them, than you have a big advantage.

* Page titles. Page titles are the captions that appear at the very top of your web page. Make sure that each web page in your website would have a different title that will include the appropriate keywords that you have listed in your meta tags.

* Focus. Remember, search engines will crawl through your website per page. Starting in the upper left corner working their way down. Each page is a different project altogether. Focus is the key. Ensure that each web page of yours would focus on a particular keyword or key phrase. If there is an article in that page, make sure that the article will only discuss and include one keyword or key phrase from the list you have made. Also, it would greatly help if you would name the page file in a manner that would include the keyword or key phrase it is focused on.

For example thisisyourwebsite.com/thisisyourkeyword.html is a good page filename that would help boost your SEO efforts.

Google wants you to use a sitemap and they have made it quite easy for you to integrate it into your websites. Take some time to learn about sitemaps and use them.

Following these guidelines would help you a lot in securing a favorable position in search engine results pages. This in turn would guarantee for you a sustainable and sufficient volume of traffic that would make your website a genuine success.

How to Properly Improve Search Engine Rankings

May 25th, 2012 No comments

How a search engine works

In order to get your site listed in search engine results you must first learn how a search engine works, and what makes a website relevant in their eyes. Google is the most popular search engine so I will be explaining google.

The goal of google is to return the most relevant results for its users. If someone is searching for infomation or products and the results that are returned are not useful there not going to continue using that search engine. Therefore google uses many tools to measure the relevancy of a page to certain search terms or keywords.

The biggest factor that google uses to determine the order in which its search results display is the popularity of the page or site. Google measures website popularity by the number of links from other sites that are pointing to that page. These must be from quality sites however, placing a link to your site in link farms, or directories will not work. The best way to improve your sites backlinks is to email other webmasters with sites similar to yours and offer to pay them to place a link to your site. Only do this two to three times per month, if you gain to many links to fast you may get your sie banned from google.

Google also measures keyword density, this is the ratio of a certain word or phrase to the total amount of words on the page. It is believed that a keyword density of around 2 percent is best for google. There are many tools on the web that you can use to check your keyword density, just do a google search for keyword density tool.

The most important of all comes once a visitor enters your site from a google search. Google will measure the activity of a visitor once they are on your site. For example if a visitor is on your site for only a few seconds and then leave, google then knows that your site is not relevant to the keyword they used to find your site. You can sign up for google analytics and this will give you some of the same reports that google uses to determine the rank of your site. Learn what each report means and how you can improve them, and you will see a dramatic increase in your page rank.

Remember:

  • Do proper keyword research and target only the most relevant
  • Check your keywod density and try to keep it below 2%
  • Find sites more popular than  your own, and purchase links once or twice a month
  • Sign up for google analytics and learn what the reports mean and how to improve on them

Free Webmaster Tools to Assist in the Running of your Online Home Business

May 6th, 2012 No comments

When looking for free webmaster tools, my advice to you is to be sure that you are using tools from a reputable site or, more importantly, if you are downloading software be very careful that the download does not contain adware and spyware or viruses for that matter!

On that note let’s start off with the free software that you can use to protect your computer, because if that is not running well you will not be able to run you online business successfully. Windows Defender from Microsoft is great at scanning your computer for unwanted software. The free version of AVG Anti-Virus as well as Ad-Aware SE and Spybot are great at keeping your computer free of viruses and other undesirables! The free version of ZoneAlarm has many great attributes. Just a word of warning if you are running AVG anti-virus, ZoneAlarm will not detect that you have anti-virus protection, so do not be alarmed, it is just that ZoneAlarm has not been programmed to look for AVG. The one program I did purchase was ProcessGuard, which amongst other things protects my computer from keyboard loggers, protects the physical memory, blocks global hooks, blocks rootkit/driver/service installation and registry DLL injection. These programs all run harmoniously on my computer and so far I have managed to keep out all the dangerous and unwanted intruders.

Now on to the more exciting free webmaster tools, that will greatly assist you in the running of your online home business.

Google Alerts can really add excitement to your day. If you set up a Google alert for the name of your affiliate program/s, Google will advise you by email when a new page appears on Google with these search terms and you can view the page and see if it is an opportunity to recruit an affiliate. Sometimes the new page can be a forum post asking for opinions on the affiliate program. This gives you the opportunity to add your opinion with your affiliate link of course in the signature file.

You can also set up a Google alert for your own name. This throws up some really exciting results as you can see when someone has clicked on your profile in an Article Directory or clicked on your articles as well as where people have clicked to find out what other articles you have written. This is definitely worth trying as I am sure you will be both surprised and amazed at what comes up!

Google Webmaster Tools, previously known as Google Sitemaps is so useful in that you are able to let Google know when you have updated your site. The sitemap enables Google to crawl your site better and ensures that the most current pages of your site are indexed quickly. You can just create a sitemap upload it to the same directory as your .index files and in the Google Webmaster Tools under Add a Sitemap you just type in or paste the url of your new sitemap. Google also give you reports on their latest crawl of your site and notifies you of errors, as well as give you details and positioning of your keywords. There is also other really useful information available.

Google Analytics is an amazing free service where you can see exactly where your visitors came from both geographically and through which entry page, what

keywords they used, where they exited your site, etc. You will have to give this one a try for yourself as there is just so much useful information for the webmaster which enables you to fine tune your marketing and promotion strategies for your online home business.

StatCounter offers a free version which I use on my site and I keep it invisible, as I believe it to be more professional, but this free service also provides incredibly detailed information about your visitors, which is extremely useful. It also records your page loads, unique visitors, first time visitors and returning visitors. It is easy to install and with this powerful little tool you can check to see that visitors to your site are increasing daily.

Online Link Popularity Tools and Back Link checkers are easily available online and enable you to monitor your link popularity and back links on a regular basis. Writing and publishing articles regularly is a great way to see your back links increase on a daily basis.

These are only a handful of the free tools that I do use to assist me with my online home business. There are many more really useful tools provided by Google as well as other reputable sites, it is just a matter of finding what suits you and your business.

As traffic is the key to generating an income from your online home business, these tools that I have mentioned assist me in closely monitoring where my traffic is coming from and what keywords are being used.

Internet Search Tools

November 7th, 2011 No comments

If you have been an online marketer for a time, you know that it can be challenging for any one who is a newbie faced with tons of misconceptions. It gets troublesome to decipher the misconceptions from reality, which is a exceptionally critical step to be prosperous. In this post we shall be busting three normal Online promoting myths, which are otherwise conveniently believed.

A normal Online promoting myth is that if you are a neighborhood smaller home business, then you do not have to have any net presence. You do have to have to create an web based web-site and get listed for neighborhood search terms, applicable to your location, considering that is what your neighborhood competitors are carrying out. You see most major Online organisations focusing on leveraging neighborhood markets and are attempting to support neighborhood home business get way more exposure by way of the net. The neighborhood search phenomena is exploding, and the factor about it is that many people are applying their iphones and wise phones to surf the net and also appear for neighborhood firms. Even restaurants have been carrying out this for pretty a when, and the competition for page 1 is fierce. Well tell you to not even bother worrying about your competitors in the search engines, if you want to be quantity 1, then go just after it and get it. So possibly ask oneself what you are willing to do to get to the best and make it your own.

A further online promoting misconception is that social media is not effective for driving targeted traffic. If the truth is told, web pages like Facebook and Twitter have created it a lot easier to speak to future shoppers. The relationship making capacity that you can get from these social media tools can be very productive when it comes to bringing in the sales and receiving the most out of your web based home business. For example, you can use Twitter to preserve in touch with your existing shoppers and at the similar time add prospects to your follower list to which you can market place directly. In addition to the promoting prospective, social media web pages can also support to build a brand for your home business.

The easiest way to get targeted traffic is pay per click – or is it so The portion that is left out of that picture is that PPC has a understanding curve, it can be financially risky, and you have to have to get knowledge with it in order to do properly. We would never ever recommend a new marketer to get involved with PPC considering you have to know too most factors, and get them perfect, in order to succeed. On the other hand, it is your revenue so if you have a budge, or the revenue, then do what you really feel you have to have to do. All we can tell you is to get some understanding on the topic, then proceed with caution if you are new to it. In conclusion, if you want to see achievement in online promoting, acquire the truth and do not think the misconceptions.
