Link Your Way to a Higher Search Engine Ranking

Are you serious about driving traffic to your website? If you are then you should develop a linking strategy. People follow the recommendations of trusted websites. When a trusted website links to yours you suddenly get immediate attention. There are three major link strategies: 1) Purchasing text links 2) Employing a link finding service 3) Reciprocal linking.

This article focuses on the latter-reciprocal linking. Reciprocal linking means that your website links to another and their website links back to yours. Its a great way to increase your ranking in search engines. Search engines use link popularity to rank sites. Therefore exchanging reciprocal links with other websites will encourage visitors to not only visit your website but bookmark it as well.

Now, this is not as simple as throwing your links all over the World Wide Web. If that were the case nearly all websites would be popular. In order to have success with reciprocal linking you should bare in mind these factors.

The quality of links should out weigh the quantity. The inbound links should come from sites that are relevant to your site content Partners should link to you from pages listing as few links as possible.

The first thing is to get people to want to link to your website. This begins with having good web content. Analyze the value of your content in relation to your competitors.

Next, you need to research websites that are worth linking to and that will drive relevant traffic to your website. Take your time to identify the directories, news sites, portals, blogs and ezines that are specific to your field. There are many software tools that you can purchase to help make this task more efficient. They will locate relevant sites, collect email addresses and even prepare letters requesting that the website link back to yours.

Arelis Reciprocal Link Solution, Links Manager and Linkpro are but a few examples. Even if you decide to use software, its important to visit the websites that these tools generate. However, good quality content is still the best way to build long term link popularity.

You can determine the websites traffic by visiting www.alexa.com you will also learn the length of time their site has been online. Going to link sites that will tell you how many sites link to them for further proof that they get a lot of traffic. One should keep in mind the following components when adopting a reciprocal linking strategy.

You will need to know the name and email address of the person who runs the site, as well you should keep a record of the date you contacted the owner of the website and the date that he or she responds.

You will also need to make note of the resulting deal. Dont be surprised if some people say no, while others will not reply at all. Some may want money for links.

If the web owner agrees to swap links, verify that the links are in place and check the website periodically for the link. Some people swap links and then pull yours. When applied correctly, reciprocal linking is an excellent strategy for getting traffic and improving your search engine ranking.

    SEO Tutorial (Search Engine Optimization)?
    Link Popularity
    http://bestseoservicespk.com/

When a Webmaster adds a link to one of the pages of your website, he is basically qualifying the fact that the content in your website is somehow related to the content on his website.

Also it is a claim that the visitors coming to his website can find additional information on the topic by going through your website. This is the fundamental fact of incoming links that most search engines recognize.

So basically, the relevancy and rankings that a search engine imparts to your website will depend a lot on the number, quality and relevancy of incoming links to your website. There are some very specific things that I mean by the three adjectives which I have used in the last statement.

Number: The more the number of incoming links to your website the more highly it will be ranked by a search engine. However when counting the number of incoming links you should almost always focus on the relevant and quality ones.
Relevance: The more relevant the links are the more value your site has in the eyes of search engines. Relevancy basically means that the incoming links comes from a web page, which has content, related to the content on your web page. So for example an incoming link to this tutorial is more relevant if it comes from a SEO oriented website, as opposed to from a website for online gaming.
Quality: One another criteria, which goes into rating incoming links, is the age of the links themselves and the age of the site which houses those links. By age, I mostly mean the time when the Search Engine has discovered the link. The older the website (which houses the incoming link) the more weight the link carries. Please note that this is something, which is used mostly in Google and has little effect for rankings on Yahoo and MSN.

However some caution is required while proceeding on a link building campaign for a website. There are sites which will allow you to ‘buy’ incoming links from them. This is usually a waste of time and resources and these links do little to boost the popularity of your site. This is due to the fact that these sites are mosty unrelated to the content of your website and hence such incoming links are not valued much by search engines.

Moreover, some of these sites are specifically set up for the purpose of providing huge numbers of inbound links to different sites. Such ‘link farms’ distort the natural democratic process of link building which is more based on content relevance and association rather than on an overtly economic interest. Infact some search engines like Google have started black listing such ‘link farms’ and sites which are associated with them. As a result, such methods might do you more harm than good by getting your site blacklisted from Google’s result pages.

There are still a lot of valid techniques you can use for link building. Read ahead and find out the best ways to boost link popularity of your site.

    2. Site Optimization

Almost all Search Engines try to use a bit of natural language processing to understand the content of the website and related it to the search terms that they are fed with.. This association of keywords with websites is driven by keywords that appear at specific places in your website. For example:

Keywords that appear in the heading of a web page.
Words appearing in the link text of hyperlinks in a web page.
Words which are not common (like ‘a’, ‘the’ etc.) and which appear in high density in the sentences in the site.
